Brazil Plans Record World Cup Security Operation

The Brazilian Government on Monday said it would implement the largest security operation ever at a World Cup this June with 170,000 personnel from the police, military and secret service.
It said the figure was 22 per cent higher than the number used at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The government added that over a third of the security force, about 57,000, would be soldiers from Brazil’s armed forces.
In February, the Brazilian government had announced plans to invest about 800 million dollars in World Cup security.
NAN reports that football’s signature event will be staged in 12 Brazilian cities from June 12 to July 13.(Xinhua/NAN)
