Crime: ‘How Syndicate Use Girl 6, To Solicit For Alms

The National Coordinator of the a non-governmental organisation, Hands that Care, Mrs Jacinta Nworie has narrated how a six member syndicate allegedly use a little girl of about six, suspected to be suffering from cancer of the cheek to solicit for alms for their personal gains, under the guise of assisting her.
Nworie who reported the incident to the police said she came in contact with the suspects and the victim soliciting for alms at Agboju Junction, on the Badagry Expressway and decided to assist the victim through her organisation.
She however said after a brief chat with the victim, she discovered that the suspects had been using her to make money in different states.
“The victim told me that they had been to nine states in different regions of Nigeria to beg for money, saying they always lodged in hotel for days.
“One of the suspects claimed they usually lodged in one room. He revealed that they had been in the business since August 2013,’’ Nworie said.
The coordinator called on the police to ensure that the suspects were prosecuted for using the girl to solicit for money for their selfish gains.
Spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Ngozi Braide who confirmed the arrest of the six suspects, including two women, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the suspects were arrested through the effort of a non-governmental organisation.
She said the suspects had been detained at the Festac Police Station, pending conclusion of investigations, while the victim was in the custody of the NGO.
Braide further stated that the police would collaborate with the NGO to prosecute the suspects as soon as investigations are concluded.
